These aims guide everything we do and support our shared vision for an enduring and equitable future for kindergartens in aotearoa
Kindergartens Aotearoa was formed to strengthen and grow the kindergarten movement in Aotearoa New Zealand by uniting regional kindergarten associations into a collective force.
Together, we aim to address challenges such as declining enrolments, changing government policies, and increasing demands on families and communities. By sharing resources, expertise, and advocacy efforts, Kindergartens Aotearoa works to protect the unique values of kindergartens and maintain professional teaching standards. We want to ensure the movement remains sustainable, innovative, and impactful for future generations. Upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and fostering community partnerships are central to our mission of delivering education that reflects and respects the diverse identities of Aotearoa’s people.
TEACHING AND LEARNING EXCELLENCE
- Lift and lead teaching and learning – developing and implementing a cohesive and consistent national strategy focusing on pedagogy and practice, and based on research.
- Enhance professionalism and build our reputation as a leader in education and a service of choice.
STRATEGIC GROWTH AND INNOVATION
- Facilitate greater opportunities to provide contracted services locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
- Future-proof kindergarten to withstand shifts and changes in government policy, population demographics and community expectations.
- Establish and innovate new services to grow the kindergarten movement.
COMMUNITY AND PARTNERSHIPS
- Develop strong partnerships with national and local organisations to better support communities.
ADVOCACY AND LEADERSHIP
- Respond to competition and increase influence as the largest ECE service provider Nationwide.
- Be a public provider of high quality early childhood education – providing kindergarten as a service to the community and contributing to community wellbeing.
COLLABORATION
- Work together for operational efficiency and sustainability
- Reduce duplication and make more efficient use of government funding to focus on teaching and learning through increased ‘buying power’ and economies of scale.
